Make sure to put supporting literacy on your gift list this season!

Grace Rwanda will be selling unique African crafts that can help change a child’s life at the upcoming 28th Annual St. Thomas Aquinas Christmas Craft Fair!

The funds we raise will go toward creating our next YEGO youth centre libraries to help children in rural Rwanda access books, magazines, newspapers, computers and e-readers. This access to resources and introduction to literacy is life-changing for many youth!

Mark your calendars for Sunday, Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the North Vancouver craft fair at 541 West Keith Road.

Join us, along with more than 100 other local artisans and exhibitors at the fair. You’ll be sure to find something for everyone on your holiday gift list. It’s a great community event and we’d be delighted to see you there. More than 2,000 visitors came out last year. Admission is only $2 and parking is free.

Grace Rwanda was at Missions Fest Vancouver earlier this month and made a real impact!

We connected with people from all over B.C., even Washington and Rwanda, and shared news of our literacy work for Rwandan youth.

Elizabeth also gave a very well-received hour-long seminar on genocide, forgiveness and reconciliation.

We were impressed with the heart people had for our cause and amazed at the consistent interest people who visited our booth had in Rwanda and its future. We made great connections, gave out Rwandan crafts, and held a gift basket giveaway!

We’d like to thank all our volunteers, especially Janis and Ray Martyn for all their help making Missions Fest a success.

We hope to take our message on the road to the next Missions Fest Alberta in Edmonton later this February to keep spreading the word.

Grace Rwanda co-founder Elizabeth Johnson will be sharing her lessons in leadership with B.C. youth this month. Johnson is due to speak to youth in Rotary International‘s Youth Adventure in Leadership program, which runs from Jan. 17-19th. She discusses the powerful leadership lessons to be learned from forgiveness in a talk titled, “The Power of Forgiveness.”

Later in the month, Grace Rwanda will be a featured participant in Missions Fest Vancouver, a Christian-focussed conference for organizations working on international aid and missions abroad. The event is being held  downtown at the Vancouver Convention Centre from Jan. 24-26th. We will be manning a booth there and hope to outreach and share our cause with other participants and like-minded non-profits. Johnson has also been asked to give a presentation to attendees Friday afternoon.

Grace Rwanda’s Missions Fest participation has been made possible by the generous support of Jan and Ray Martyn (pictured above.) The couple visited Rwanda on our distribution trip last summer and were inspired by our work in the field. They are sponsoring our conference fees and we’d like to extend our sincere thanks for their support.

Lastly, Grace Rwanda will be attending UBC‘s International Development Research Network on Jan. 30th to liaise with staff and work on partnerships.

It’s a busy month of events and presentations, but we are always happy to spread the word about Grace Rwanda’s work. If you know of an organization, school, community group, or business we should connect with email info@gracerwanda.org.
