Grace Rwanda is ringing in the New Year with some exciting new initiatives we’d like to tell you about.

First off, our Ring in the Season with Reading for Rwandans Indiegogo fundraising campaign is still running, and is now in its final week. The goal of the campaign is to raise $2,000 toward books and e-readers for our third youth community centre library planned for Kimisagra this spring. It wraps up January 15th and with just a week to go we’re at 60 per cent of our goal. So if you haven’t had a chance to contribute over the busy holiday season it’s not too late. All donations over $25 are fully tax deductible. Check it out on our Indiegogo page.

Next, our co-founder Elizabeth Johnson is back out in the community this month spreading news of Grace Rwanda’s work. On January 14 and 15 she’ll be visiting Victoria to make presentations at local schools. On January 23-25 she’ll be facilitating a Rotary youth camp and serving as a keynote speaker, helping to inspire the next generation of youth leaders to give back. And on January 30-February 1, Johnson and the Grace Rwanda team will be hosting an information booth and participating in a conference at MissionsFest Vancouver. Come on out and get inspired!

Plans for Grace Rwanda’s social business branch, the Ineza Foundation, are also ramping up this month. Learn more about our planned Rwandan eco-lodge social enterprise, which is being created to sustainably support Grace Rwanda literacy projects, at the new Inezafoundation.org web site, which is under construction.

Finally, we’re thrilled to announce that students from two African Student Societies, the African Awareness Initiative of UBC and the African Student Association of SFU are gearing up to launch an exciting fundraising competition on February 1 to collect funds on behalf of Grace Rwanda and our important literacy programs. Check out this short video to learn more about this amazing event! Stay tuned and check back for details closer to the launch date.

Grace Rwanda is getting into the spirit of the season! We’re making it possible for you to consume less and inspire more with your gift list this holiday.

We just launched out our new 2014 Indiegogo holiday library crowdfunding campaign, Ring in the Season with Reading for Rwandans.” Check it out and watch a short video detailing our most recent education and literacy work in Rwanda.

We thank everyone who supported our work in last year’s campaign and helped us reach our goal! This year, we’re hoping to raise $2,000 by January 15th in order to help stock our third youth library, which we plan to set up in Kimisagra’s youth centre in Spring 2015.

Your donation will help fill the new library with books and e-readers. All donations over $25 are fully tax deductible. Why not consider making a donation in a loved one’s name in lieu of a commercialized gift this Christmas!

And if you can, please help us spread the word by sharing news of our crowdfunding campaign on your social networks.

Happy holidays from all of us at Grace Rwanda!

This year is off to a great start at Grace Rwanda.

First of all, we’d like to thank all our supporters for making our “This Holiday, Give a Library” campaign a success.

We met our Indiegogo goal, and this year, that money will go to buy 500 more books for Rwandan students. Those of you who requested tax receipts, we’ll make sure to get those to you.

We’d also like to thank everyone who came out to support the Langley Sunrise Rotary Christmas Tree sale, with proceeds going to support some of Grace Rwanda’s projects.

And we’d like to share our appreciation with our other community supporters who made generous donations to our cause: Sechelt’s Bethel Baptist Church members, who raised $1,000 for our literacy programs, the Rotary Club of North Delta, which made a significant contribution to our Muhanga Youth Centre Library, the Rotary Club of Langley Sunrise, which approved a district matching grant of nearly $8,000 that will allow us to build another youth centre library, and students at Holy Cross Regional Secondary who raised $600 for Grace Rwanda through donations and craft sales.

We’d like to extend our deepest thanks to all of of these incredible donors for their support to date. We can’t do it without you. You are the heart and soul of what we do and we appreciate everything you do.

Stay tuned for some exciting news and events coming from Grace Rwanda this year, including an upcoming trip to Rwanda this spring to install more libraries!

The best thing about the holidays? Giving to others and making a real difference in their lives.

So, “This Holiday, Give A Library!”

Grace Rwanda has launched a new crowdfunding campaign to buy books for primary classrooms through Indiegogo.

We’re aiming to raise at least $1,000, to buy books for schoolchildren in Rwanda’s Muhanga district. We have until Dec 31 to do it.

Please help us give the gift of hope and literacy this season. Even small donations add up. Donations over $25 are tax deductible.

We’d love it if you’d also share our efforts online  on your social networks with your family and friends to help us spread the word — and spread a reading culture in Rwanda.

Have a look at our campaign page on Indiegogo. And click on the picture above to watch a short video on Grace Rwanda’s work!
